How we do it

Qualitative Market Research

Quality control

Recom has ISO9001:2000 accreditation, and places great importance on quality and quality procedures at all stages of the research process.

A member of the senior management team is involved in managing or reviewing every stage of every project. All work, from design through to final presentation of results, goes through a formal checking procedure which is monitored by the Recom Quality Manager. This forms part of our continuous improvement programme.

Research managers not only ensure that they keep up to date with the latest research techniques but also with specific industry trends whether this is in communications, telecoms, IT or public sector. This dual approach has helped to provide the highest level of support to clients undertaking specific research.

All interviewers employed by Recom abide by the standards set by the Interviewer Quality Control Scheme (IQCS), and receive training in accordance with IQCS standards before they can work on any survey. They also have regular 'refresher' training courses.

Interviewers work in small teams, each with its own supervisor, to ensure control, motivation and high quality. Everyone involved in a project is provided with a thorough project-specific briefing, covering research objectives, client’s business model, and a technical product overview where appropriate. Also included are notes, familiarisation and practise with the questionnaire, and administrative procedures.

Once a project is underway we conduct regular reviews to ensure it stays on track and the quality checks are operating properly. There are daily interviewer debriefs, moving to weekly debriefs after it has been running for a little while. This is important, since information provided by interviewers often provides a more in-depth understanding of the results. This information, along with other project data, is regularly reviewed by the Recom Quality Manager at regular management team meetings.

Interviewers are not required to meet volume targets. The prime objective is the quality of the response; it is inevitable that some interviews will take longer than others to complete.

Finally, all results are thoroughly checked before being released to clients. We operate a 20% verification call-back to respondents, and there is 100% edit checking of questionnaires and verbatim comments.

Recom is proud of its quality procedures and continuous improvement process. Since research is only as good as the accuracy of the results, we believe that this is an area that cannot have too much emphasis.
